Children interested in music may begin participating in choirs as early as 4 years old.
We are proud to offer a graded Children's Music program that not only encourages singing and social interaction, but teaches some of the basics of music theory.
Children may begin participating in choir at 4 years of age. Our Music Munchkins meet each Wednesday night during prayer service. This group is made up of 4 and 5 year olds. It is led by Mrs. Kim Gore. Kim has been leading the preschoolers in music for many years. Children enjoy the opportunity to learn songs about Jesus and present a mini-concert with the other graded choirs every Christmas and each year in the Spring.
Music Makers Choir is for children in grades 1-3. The group is led by Rev. Tim Little, our Minister of Music. In the Music Makers group, children are exposed to music theory for the first time. The group presents music several times each year during the 11:00 a.m. worship service and participates in the Hanging of the Green each year. As mentioned above, they present a portion of our Children's Christmas Concert and the Spring Program.
Young Musicians is for children in grades 4-6. This group, led by Mrs. Lisa Rust, continues the study of music theory. The children in this group also participate in activities such as the Hanging of the Green, and the Christmas and Spring Concerts. They also take an active role in leading Children's Day each year.
Children may also participate in Young Musicians Handbells. This group presents sacred music during the 11:00 worship service several times a year and participates in the annual concerts described above. Handbells are a fun experience for anyone interested in music. Through participation in handbells a child must learn to read music. The group is led by Rev. Tim Little and practices each week on Wednesdays at 4:00 p.m.
